Lingen Davies Cancer Support
Sed ut perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus error sit voluptatem, totam rem aperiam, eaque ipsa quae ab illo inventore et quasi architecto beatae vitae dicta sunt explicabo.
I work in partnership with Lingen Davies Cancer Support which is the main cancer charity dedicated to supporting people living in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales as they deal with the impact of the disease on their lives.
This partnership means that counselling will be provided for people aged 18 and over who are acting as a carer to someone with cancer. This includes family, a partner, friend or another close person of those living with the disease because we understand that when someone close to you is facing cancer, your world changes too.
You may feel overwhelmed, isolated, angry, anxious, depressed, or invisible. It’s vital to remember that you matter, and your wellbeing is just as important.
Counselling support is provided for up to eight sessions and is entirely funded by Lingen Davies which means there is no cost to you. We are offering a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and compassionate space at The Hamar Centre, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, and online, for adults who would like support with the mental and emotional impact of caring for (looking after) someone with cancer. It will be a place where you are really heard, where we can support you so you can keep supporting them.
People can self-refer via this website and and we are also providing information about the service to relevant partners such as the Macmillan Advice Centre, carers centres, health professionals and community networks.
After your contact me, I will be in touch to organise a 20-minute initial discussion so I can get a better idea of what you are looking for and we can talk about ways I may be able to help you. It also gives you an opportunity to connect with me outside of my website and get a sense if you’d like to continue. If you wish to carry on, you will be offered up to eight sessions as soon as dates become available.
If you would like counselling, please check the following eligibility criteria:
- You are aged 18 and over.
- You are caring for (looking after) someone living with cancer as a family member, partner, friend, or another close person.
- Both the carer and person with cancer live in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, or Mid Wales.
- Ensure, to the best of your knowledge, you are the only family member, partner or friend connected to the person living with cancer to be referred for counselling through this project. Due to the scale of this project and to avoid conflict of interest in the counselling room or any impact on confidentiality, we can only provide therapy to one carer for each person living with cancer.
Spaces are limited on this pilot programme, so if we can’t fit you in initially, we will add you to a waiting list for when/if the service expands.
If you would like counselling or to find out more information, please email hello@orbitcounselling.co.uk or call 07359 796158.
I will get back to you within two working days, apart from times when I’m unwell or on annual leave when there will be recorded phone or out of the office email messages so you know when I will be back in touch.
More details, including an address and location map, can also be found on the contact page.
